Administrators can now customize the retention period for emails whose attachments were removed or modified

Deciding on the amount of time Avanan retains emails requires a delicate balance between privacy/compliance needs and security/business needs.

There are several workflows in Avanan where if emails are not found to be suspicious, the attachments in the email are either removed or modified:

In these workflows, users have the option to retrieve the original email with the original attachment. Since the emails are clean, they will be retained – and therefore available to restore - for a short period of time.

To support cases where it might take users some time before they submit the restore requests, administrators can now define a different retention period for these emails – from 2 days to 180 days – as long as the retention period is larger than or equal to the clean emails retention period.

To do that, go to Configuration -> Customization -> Retention Settings -> Custom and set the retention period under Emails with Modified Attachments
